The United Kingdom intends to maintain its foreign policy course unchanged, including support for Ukraine, despite the upcoming change of Prime Minister. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk, as reported by RBC-Ukraine citing Euronews.

### Continuity on key issues

Lammy emphasized that the question of changing the country's foreign policy is not even on the table. London will continue to fulfill its commitments, including the allocation of an additional £290 million to ensure Ukraine's energy security and reconstruction. At the same time, the UK plans to deepen trade and economic ties with the European Union, aiming to eliminate barriers that arose after Brexit.

"We have sent an absolutely clear signal: re-engagement with the global community, the European reset — all of this will continue," the official noted.

### Transition of power and summit postponements

Currently, the government is preparing for an orderly transfer of power to the presumed successor of Keir Starmer — Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham. He is already receiving government briefings to ensure process stability. Due to the transition period, the EU-UK summit, which was scheduled for July 22, had to be postponed.

However, at the upcoming Alliance summit in Ankara (July 7–8), the UK expects to maintain the momentum of support for Ukraine. This is facilitated by the recent unity of the G7 countries at the summit in France. It is expected that the US will positively assess the increase in defense spending by European allies.

### Sanctions and new funding sources

London also intends to intensify sanctions pressure on the Russian economy. "We continue to pressure dirty Russian money financing this war," Lammy stated. According to him, it is now a critical moment for international partners to support Ukraine in its fight.

Earlier, on June 25, 2026, news emerged about a new mechanism for financing Ukrainian military efforts. As reported by The Telegraph, British authorities plan to auction oil from the seized Russian shadow tanker Smirtos. The proceeds will be directed to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
