# Lithuania warns of NATO readiness for escalation: additional air defense forces in case of Russian provocations

Tensions are rising in the Baltic region: Lithuania has officially warned that the NATO alliance is ready to rapidly deploy additional military capabilities in the event of a critical escalation caused by Russian provocations. This was stated by Dovydas Matulionis, the main advisor to the President of Lithuania on national security issues, whose words are cited by RBC-Ukraine with reference to LRT.

### Growing threats and response scenarios

According to the assessment of the advisor to President Gitanas Nausėda, the threat of destabilization from Russia in the Baltic region and other parts of Europe is growing rapidly. Experts warn that provocative actions could be taken in the near future. In this regard, Alliance members are actively preparing to implement various scenarios of events.

Lithuania has already published information about the Kremlin's plans, emphasizing NATO's determination to respond to any challenges. Matulionis gave a clear explanation regarding protection mechanisms: "If all indicators point to a critical situation, I have no doubt that additional air defense forces and resources will be allocated".

Special attention in the threat assessment is paid to the political calendar. According to the advisor's data, Russia may resort to provocations on the eve of the State Duma elections, which are scheduled for the period from September 18 to 20, 2026. Although the specific nature of the possible actions of the adversary remains unknown, experts are considering a wide range of scenarios.

It is important to note that Matulionis refuted rumors about Moscow's preparation for a full-scale invasion of NATO member states. Nevertheless, he warned that not only the Baltic states but also other allies of Ukraine in Europe could come under attack.

Alongside the rise in geopolitical tension, NATO countries are facing internal challenges. It has become known about serious problems arising in the production of gunpowder, which could affect the pace of re-equipping the armies of the alliance.

Against the backdrop of these events, the military activities of allies are intensifying. Thus, the British army practiced scenarios of strikes on Vladimir Putin's hometown. In turn, Russian troops have been ordered to closely monitor the progress of NATO exercises, which indicates a high level of mutual control and readiness for a possible conflict.
