# Loopholes for Drones: How Russian UAVs Bypass Ukraine's Air Defense and Use Neutral Territories

Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) conducting air attacks on Ukrainian territory have learned to find complex routes that allow them to penetrate the country's most remote regions. The occupiers use geographical features and border zones of neighboring states to bypass air defense systems.

### Passages through the borders of neighboring countries

According to Yuriy Ignat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy actively uses territories adjacent to the borders with Belarus, Moldova, and Romania to fly unimpeded to western Ukraine. Ignat noted that there have already been repeated assessments of Belarus's possible involvement in organizing such flights.

"There is information that Belarus may be helping with this issue of flights. This has already been said repeatedly, and assessments have been given to this issue," he stated during a telethon.

### Stealth tactics over water and land

When moving towards Kyiv, Russian drones often use the water surface for camouflage. In particular, from the northern direction, the occupiers hide aerial targets over the Kyiv Sea. Additionally, UAVs stay as close to the ground as possible to avoid timely detection by Ukrainian radar stations.

In this regard, Ukraine's sky defenders are forced to deploy small aircraft and special ground units to detect and destroy such targets.

### Effectiveness of mobile fire groups

Yuriy Ignat emphasized that one of the key countermeasures remains mobile fire groups. They are particularly effective at low altitudes, where drones often fly at a distance of only 10–20 meters from the ground.

"When we see today, even in the networks, videos appear where a drone flies 10-20 meters over the ground, this is essentially where the fire groups come into play, which can work successfully at such distances," noted the representative of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

### Massive strike on Ukraine

It should be recalled that tonight Russia launched one of the largest massive strikes on Ukraine. The enemy used more than 700 offensive means simultaneously, with Kyiv being the main target. As a result of the attack, more than 100 injured and 14 killed Ukrainians have already been confirmed.
