Ukraine and France have reached a strategic consensus on key areas of cooperation. The main focus of leaders Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron was on diplomatic pressure on Russia, the current situation on the front lines, and the critically important tasks of strengthening Ukraine's air defense system.

As reported by RBC-Ukraine citing a statement by the Ukrainian president, the sides held a detailed exchange of views. Zelenskyy emphasized that the French leader "clearly knows all the details" of the current diplomatic prospects. This indicates that Paris is fully aware of the nuances of the negotiation process and is ready to synchronize actions.

### Europe as an Active Player in Diplomacy

Particular emphasis during the conversation was placed on the need for coordinated steps. "It is important that every step we take in negotiations, in pressuring Russia, in bringing peace closer, is made as well-prepared and coordinated as possible with key partners," stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Kyiv insists that the European community must not remain on the sidelines. "Our position is that Europe must be part of the diplomatic process, and Europe's voice must matter," emphasized the head of the Ukrainian state. This demand is aimed at ensuring that European countries do not merely support Ukraine but actively participate in shaping the conditions for ending the conflict.

### Situation on the Front and Air Threats

In addition to diplomatic issues, the leaders discussed the real situation on the battlefield. Zelenskyy informed Macron about the ongoing missile and drone attacks by Russia on Ukrainian cities and villages. These attacks remain one of the main threats to infrastructure and the civilian population.

In response, the issue of countering air attacks was raised. The sides discussed Ukraine's needs for additional air defense. The President of Ukraine expressed hope for the continuation and expansion of support from France in this direction.

### Context: From Anti-Ballistic Defense to the G7 Summit

Current negotiations are a continuation of a series of contacts initiated earlier. In May 2026, the leaders had already discussed strengthening air defense and France's readiness to work on creating an anti-ballistic defense system for Ukraine.

An important stage of interaction was the G7 summit held from June 15–17 in Évian-les-Bains. On the sidelines of this meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held negotiations with Donald Trump. As a result of these consultations, countries began discussing licenses for the production of air defense components and missiles, opening new opportunities for the localization of arms production and strengthening Ukraine's defense potential.
