In an exclusive comment for RBC-Ukraine, the Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, outlined the key conditions under which a fair peace with Russia is possible. Against the backdrop of the current military situation, the diplomat emphasized that Ukraine's allies must not relax pressure on Moscow, even if the Kremlin shows signs of desperation.

### Strategy of Total Isolation

According to the Estonian minister, Vladimir Putin continues to actively work to undermine European unity. The goal of such actions is to buy time and gain additional leverage for future negotiations. Tsahkna believes that the only effective response to this strategy is to force Russia into a position of complete isolation.

The diplomat is convinced that any steps towards settlement must be based on strict rules that will not allow the aggressor to regain lost positions or dictate terms.

### Five Principles of a Just Peace

To achieve long-term stability, Tsahkna proposes that European leaders rely on five fundamental principles:

- Peace must be based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.

- Russia must fully withdraw its troops from occupied territories.

- Reliable security guarantees must be created for Ukraine and countries in the region.

- A key condition is holding those responsible accountable for war crimes.

- Restoring trust is possible only after Moscow demonstrates real steps towards de-escalation.

### Risks of Escalation Against NATO

The context of Tsahkna's statement is reinforced by a number of alarming signals from the region. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda recently warned of Russia preparing provocative operations against several European countries. Experts also note the possibility of a scenario where Moscow might stage an attack by Ukrainian drones on the territory of a NATO member state to provoke a conflict.

In Latvia, the possibility of direct escalation by the RF against Alliance members is already being openly discussed. Under these conditions, Estonia's position on the need for tough consolidation and isolation of the aggressor looks like an attempt to prevent the expansion of the conflict zone.
