The Belgium national team has identified its new head coach. The national team will be led by 49-year-old Dutch specialist Mark van Bommel. The agreement with the coach is calculated until June 2028, that is, until the end of the European Championship.

This is reported by Sport RBC.UA citing the authoritative insider Fabrizio Romano. According to the source, the Royal Belgian Football Association has already agreed on all details of the contract with the Dutchman. An official announcement of the appointment is expected in the near future.

### Change of coaching staff

In the post of head coach of the Belgium national team, van Bommel will replace the French specialist Rudy Garcia. The leadership of Belgian football decided not to continue cooperation with Garcia immediately after the national team was eliminated from the fight at the 2026 World Cup at the quarterfinal stage.

### Van Bommel's career

Mark van Bommel is known not only as a coach, but also as an outstanding footballer. In his playing career, he defended the colors of such clubs as PSV, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Milan. As part of the Netherlands national team, van Bommel was a long-time captain.

As a footballer, he was considered a fairly tough player, ready to do anything to take the ball, which often led to receiving red cards. On the coaching bench in adult football, van Bommel debuted in 2018 at the head of PSV. His last place of work was the Belgian Antwerp, which gives him an advantage in the form of deep knowledge of local football and the potential of players of the national team.
