The encounter took place on the night of October 6-7 at the legendary Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, ending in a confident 3:0 victory for the hosts. This friendly fixture served as the culmination of the greatest international career in modern football history, drawing tens of thousands of dedicated fans to the stands to pay tribute to their captain. From the opening minutes, the Argentina national team seized the initiative, although breaking down the opponent's dense defense was no easy task. As expected, Lionel Messi became the central figure on the pitch, directly participating in all three scoring attacks of his team. In the first half, the 39-year-old star forward proved himself not only as a goalscorer but also as an exceptional playmaker, providing two precise assists to Nicolas Otamendi and Nico Paz, which allowed the hosts to enter halftime with a comfortable lead. ### Emotional Ceremony and a Triumphant Goal The culmination of the evening came in the second half when it was time for the captain himself to secure his name on the match sheet. Messi responded to the football celebration orchestrated by the stands by scoring a goal, coldly converting a penalty kick and setting the final score on the scoreboard. A symbolic moment of the match occurred in the tenth minute when play was halted for exactly one minute. All Benin players approached the Argentine to personally shake his hand, while the stadium erupted into thunderous ovations in honor of the player who immortalized the number ten jersey. ### Contradictory Data Despite the overall picture of a triumphant farewell, certain discrepancies emerged in sports media and analyst reports regarding the dynamics of the first half. While Ukrainian specialized publications reported on the confident territorial advantage of the Argentines from the very first minutes and active pressure, some Russian sources (specifically Championat.com) focused on the fact that during the opening forty-five minutes the score remained unopened for a long time, and Benin's defense demonstrated unexpectedly high resilience, holding back the star-studded Albiceleste attack until the key scoring actions in the second half. The conclusion of Lionel Messi's international career marks the end of an entire era in world football. Having debuted for the national team back in 2005, he has walked an incredible path, playing 208 matches, scoring 126 goals, and providing 69 assists. The legendary Argentine's collection includes all major titles: gold at the 2008 Olympic Games, the triumphant 2022 World Cup, and two Copa America victories in 2021 and 2024. His legacy will remain forever etched in the history of global sports, and the match against Benin will forever stay in the memory of millions of fans. ## ❓ FAQ ### Q: What was the score in the Argentina vs Benin match? **A:** The match ended in a 3:0 victory for the Argentina national team. ### Q: What goal contributions did Lionel Messi make? **A:** Messi provided two assists to Otamendi and Paz, and scored a penalty in the second half. ### Q: What trophies has Messi won with Argentina? **A:** He won the 2008 Olympic gold, the 2022 World Cup, and the Copa America in 2021 and 2024.
