## 🎯 Key Points

- Jordan's jersey sold at Joopiter auction for $12.3 million
- The lot set a record for items tied to the basketball star's career
- The item is linked to the 1998 championship season and The Last Dance series
- Jordan's Ferrari car also fetched a record $2.7 million

The game-worn jersey of legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, worn during Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals, has been successfully sold at the prestigious Joopiter auction house. This lot instantly captured the attention of collectors worldwide, becoming the most expensive item ever directly tied to the famous athlete's playing career. The final sale price exceeded initial expert expectations, cementing the iconic artifact's status as a crucial historical relic.

### Core Event and Financial Results of the Auction

Initially, Joopiter estimated the unique lot between $10 million and $15 million. Amid fierce competition for the historic uniform, the price rose to a record-breaking $12.3 million. For comparison, Jordan's previous memorabilia record stood at $10.1 million—the amount paid for his jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals. Auction organizers noted that few objects in sports history embody the spirit of victory and greatness quite so vividly.

### Historical Context and The Last Dance Phenomenon

The sold item derives its special value from its direct connection to Michael Jordan's final season with the Chicago Bulls. This exact period formed the basis of the acclaimed documentary series The Last Dance. In that memorable series against the Utah Jazz, the Bulls triumphed 4:2, capturing their sixth and final championship title of the Jordan era. Jordan himself once again earned the Finals MVP award, reinforcing his living legend status.

### Contradictory Data

Open sources and various sports reports show minor discrepancies in the final transaction amount: some outlets cite the exact figure as $12.26 million, while others round it up to $12.3 million. Furthermore, estimates of the absolute world record for sports apparel vary; the all-time record belongs to Babe Ruth’s jersey from the 1932 World Series, sold in 2024 for an impressive $24.1 million. However, within Jordan’s personal collection of artifacts, the Joopiter auction established an undisputed maximum.

### Associated Lots and Aftermath

Alongside the legendary jersey, the same auction featured the sale of Michael Jordan's personal sports car—a rare 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello. The vehicle fetched $2.7 million, quadrupling the previous auction record for this specific model. Experts emphasize that the market for memorabilia tied to 20th-century athletic greats continues to experience phenomenal growth, drawing museum-grade collectors and investors alike.
