Microsoft has begun testing a major search update for Windows 11 with participants in the Windows Insider program. The company has redesigned the interface and algorithms to make search faster, clearer, and more useful. However, the new features are being rolled out gradually, so they are not yet available to all testers.

The main search page has become simpler and free of visual clutter, while results now clearly indicate their source—whether an app, file, setting, web page, or Microsoft Store. Ads and promotional content have been removed from web search, and users can now choose to disable internet and store results entirely. Additionally, priority has been improved for local files and apps, settings search has been enhanced, and the system now better handles queries with typos or incomplete words.

Furthermore, Microsoft has increased search reliability by reducing crashes and loading issues. Search for local, cloud, and connected files has been improved, and support for two-character queries has been added. The company notes that this is only the first wave of changes, with further improvements expected in the coming months.
