# Moldova Creates Its Own Air Defense System: Sandu Adopts Ukraine's Experience to Combat Russian Drones

The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has initiated the development of domestic interceptor drones to protect the country's airspace. The war in Ukraine has forced Chisinau to urgently seek technological solutions against Russian aerial attacks.

### Neutrality Does Not Mean Defenselessness

The head of state emphasized that Moldova's neutral status does not mean a lack of defense. The country has already faced numerous incidents, as Russian drones regularly violate the republic's airspace. Debris falls near the border, posing a threat to human life.

Sandu is particularly concerned about a recent incident in the Romanian city of Galați, where a Russian drone recently crashed into a residential building. Two people were injured at the time. The city is located right next to the border of Moldova and Ukraine.

“Those who want our country to be completely defenseless must understand that there is a risk that drones will fall on us, and we will not be able to do anything about it,” the president stated.

### Legislative Changes for the Defense Industry

She has already appealed to the government to prepare legislative amendments. New rules will allow Moldova to develop its own arms industry.

Moldovan authorities want to pave the way for the defense business. Legislation will open the doors to private companies, allowing for the creation of joint ventures. A separate point is the attraction of foreign investors. Moldova wants to build modern factories.

### Cooperation with Ukraine as a Key Priority

Sandu explained that the country is currently effectively powerless against the threat from the sky. The military has recorded more than 20 cases of Russian drones entering the country's airspace. However, no measures were taken to shoot them down, as there were simply no technical capabilities.

Chisinau is betting on Kyiv, and consultations have already begun. Ukraine has a unique four-year experience of effectively countering mass UAV attacks. It is here that the world's best interceptors are being created.

“Ukrainians are the best when it comes to interceptor drones,” Sandu emphasized.

The president wants to gain access to Ukrainian technologies and plans to borrow as many solutions as the budget allows. In the first stage, the authorities will form a special group of specialists who will study the experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and adapt it.

### Escalation of Threats

Last month, an occupier's drone from Russia entered Moldova's airspace during an attack on Ukraine. Against the backdrop of the situation, the authorities temporarily closed the airspace in the northern and central parts of Moldova. This is not the first time a Russian drone has flown into Moldovan territory.
