A short video has spread across social media this week showing a monkey entering a shop and hugging a shopkeeper sitting behind the counter for a few seconds. Captured by a store security camera, the clip quickly transcended a small circle of viewers to become one of the most discussed materials online, sparking a wave of reposts, comments, and debates over the authenticity of the footage. ### How the Video Went Viral According to reports, the video was published on Instagram by a young man from India. In a matter of days, the material amassed a huge audience: just three days after publication, the clip was viewed over 239 million times, and the number of likes approached 16 million. Such figures make the recording one of the most-watched social media clips recently and explain why it attracted the attention of not only regular users, but also the media. ### What is Visible in the Footage The security camera recordings show the interior of a small shop, with a sign indicating services related to mobile devices and repairs. A man in a light-colored shirt is sitting behind the counter, while a monkey climbs onto his back and briefly presses against him as if hugging him. The scene lasts only a few seconds before the animal walks away. This casualness and warmth of the moment, according to some viewers, are what made the video emotionally captivating. ### The Question of Authenticity However, a debate immediately arose around the video concerning its authenticity. Users' opinions were divided: one part of the audience believes the footage may have been generated using artificial intelligence, pointing to suspicious movement details and textures. Another part, conversely, believes in the naturalness of the situation and sees it as a display of an animal's affection for humans, which is particularly characteristic of regions where monkeys frequently visit populated areas and retail outlets. ### Waiting for Confirmation At present, there is no exact confirmation of whether the video was created using artificial intelligence or if it captures a real event. Neither the author of the video nor other independent sources have provided public clarification on the origin of the footage. Until the issue is clarified, the recording remains a subject of discussion: for some, it is a touching case of human-animal contact, while for others, it is a potential example of neural network generation, highlighting the growing difficulty of verifying viral materials in the era of accessible AI tools. ## Accounts differ ### Authenticity of the monkey video (reality vs AI generation) - **Some social media users:** The footage could have been created using artificial intelligence.
