Residents of the Sviatoshyn district in Kyiv witnessed an unusual event: a moose ran into the hallway of a multi-story building. The animal, finding itself in an unnatural urban environment, triggered a mass reaction from locals, who began reporting the sighting to the 112 hotline.

### Search and Discovery

According to Oleksiy Beloshitsky, the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department, law enforcement officers responded promptly to the numerous calls. During the search, police officers found the wild animal hiding on the landing of a residential building.

"We arrived, looked for him, and he... was in the hallway of a high-rise. Just standing there, hiding. He didn't explain his reasons," Beloshitsky humorously commented on the situation, noting the absurdity of the circumstances.

### Operation to Return to Nature

The situation required coordinated action. Law enforcement officers, specialists, and concerned citizens organized an operation to evacuate the animal. The moose was carefully carried out of the hallway, loaded into a special vehicle, and transported to the forest, where it could return to its natural way of life.

The Patrol Police confirmed that the operation was successful and the animal was unharmed. In the released footage, the moose can be seen standing calmly on the stairwell, waiting for help.

### Context: Wild Animals in Cities

The incident in Kyiv is not an isolated one. Previously, it was reported that wild animals are appearing more frequently within the boundaries of Ukrainian cities. Biologists explain this by the behavior of young individuals—moose, wild boars, and foxes—which, due to a weak fear of humans, may venture into the outskirts of settlements.

Against the backdrop of these events, it is worth noting a tragic incident in the Chernihiv district, where unknown individuals illegally killed a European moose, a species listed in the Red Book. The police are conducting an investigation, and the ecological inspection reminds that hunting such animals is prohibited and entails criminal liability. Notably, the hunting season in the region was not opened at all in 2026.
