Ukraine national team defender Vitaliy Mykolenko has officially extended his contract with English club Everton. The signing of the new agreement is a significant event for both the club and the player, who has been a key figure for the team for several years.

### Details of the new contract

According to information published on Everton's official website and reported by RBK-Ukraine, the parties signed a new deal less than a month before the expiration of the previous agreement. Previously, the contract of the 27-year-old Ukrainian was set to expire on June 30, 2026. Under the regulations, starting in January, Mykolenko had the legal right to negotiate with other clubs, but he chose to continue his career with the Liverpool-based team.

### From Dynamo to Everton

Vitaliy moved to Everton from Kyiv's Dynamo in January 2022 for €23.5 million. During this time, he has played 157 matches for the "Toffees" and scored 4 goals. His spectacular volley against Leicester in May 2022 was recognized as the club's goal of the season.

Currently, Mykolenko ranks second among Ukrainian footballers in the number of Premier League matches played — 143 games, trailing only Oleksandr Zinchenko.

After signing the contract, Mykolenko shared his feelings:

"I am very excited and proud to sign this contract. In the first few years of my stay here, we had difficulties, but our team, like a family — every person, gave everything to get through it. We are getting better with each season. For me, the most important thing is to feel confident and comfortable in this environment, and I have that here, so I am truly happy," said the defender.

He also noted the role of head coach David Moyes:

"Since he arrived, I believe we have been growing steadily. He is a very good person, which is important to me, and as a coach, he has given me freedom on the pitch".

In the 2025/26 season, Mykolenko played 36 matches in all competitions and provided one assist. Everton finished the season in 13th place in the Premier League, earning 49 points, which did not allow the team to qualify for European competitions.

However, the player himself looks to the future with optimism:

"I think we are taking steps in the right direction to climb higher and higher in the league table. Next season, we want to finish much higher. I like to have realistic dreams: to win a trophy or, perhaps, a European cup. Regarding individual goals — I want to play in every match and demonstrate stability".

### Biography and achievements

Vitaliy Mykolenko is a native of Cherkasy and a graduate of the Kyiv Dynamo academy. He made his professional debut in August 2017. During his time with the "blues," he played 132 matches, scored 7 goals, became the Ukrainian champion, and won two Cups and the Super Cup of the country. In the 2018/19 season, he was named the best young player of the Ukrainian Premier League, and at 21, he became one of the youngest captains in the club's history.

Mykolenko made his debut for the Ukraine national team in November 2018 in a match against Turkey. He was a starting defender at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024. He scored his first and so far only goal for the national team in June 2022 against Armenia. To date, he has 54 caps for the national team.
