## Key Points

- Dollar rate for Nov 6 is 45.44 UAH (-9 kopecks), Euro is 51.04 UAH (-20 kopecks)
- NBU conducted a record intervention of $1.8 billion from Oct 26-30
- International reserves are at $47.1 billion, expected to exceed $60 billion by year-end
- NBU confirms consultations with banks and denies setting target rates

The National Bank of Ukraine has updated official foreign exchange rates for November 6, 2026. The American and European currencies continued to decline following recent growth that sparked active discussion in the financial market. The dollar became cheaper by 9 kopecks, and the euro by 20 kopecks compared to the figures from Thursday, November 5.

### Official rates for November 6

According to NBU data, the official dollar rate for November 6 is set at 45.44 hryvnias, which is 9 kopecks lower than the previous working day (45.53 UAH). The euro rate has also decreased: for November 6, it stands at 51.04 hryvnias, while on November 5, the European currency cost 51.24 hryvnias. Thus, the hryvnia demonstrated moderate strengthening against both major currencies at the beginning of the new work week.

### Expert assessment: the regulator had tools

Taras Kozak, founder of the Univer investment company, noted in a comment to RBC-Ukraine that the National Bank had enough tools to prevent the dollar rate from rising sharply to the 45.6 hryvnia mark. Specifically, according to him, the regulator could use international reserves, which he estimates at 47.1 billion dollars. "By the end of the year, the National Bank expects them to grow to over 60 billion dollars," the expert emphasized. Kozak also pointed out that allowing a sharp devaluation leads to higher gold and foreign exchange reserve costs than using them to support a gradual weakening of the hryvnia.

### Record intervention and other influence mechanisms

During the previous work week, from October 26 to October 30, the NBU conducted a record currency intervention in the interbank market, selling 1.8 billion dollars. In addition to direct interventions, the regulator has other ways to influence the currency market: restricting currency purchases for non-critical imports, as well as conducting consultations with banks to convince them not to make aggressive currency purchases on the interbank market. According to Kozak, it is these mechanisms that allow for smoothing fluctuations without sharp exchange rate spikes.

### NBU position: no target values, but smoothing is a priority

The National Bank confirmed that consultations with market participants did indeed take place. During the discussions, it was taken into account that the regulator met part of the demand needed by banks to replenish cash desks with dollar banknotes. "Therefore, there were no economic reasons for the gap between the cash and non-cash operation rates to increase," the NBU explained. The regulator also emphasized that it does not set target currency rates, but adheres to a policy of smoothing out excessive fluctuations in the currency market. Thus, the rate decline on November 6 is a continuation of this strategy, rather than a result of changing macroeconomic policy.
