# NBU releases a coin in honor of «Sea Baby»: how the SBU changed the rules of the game in the Black Sea

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has officially released a new commemorative coin dedicated to one of the most famous Ukrainian military developments — the unmanned surface vehicle «Sea Baby». This move continues a series of numismatic products telling the story of domestic defense technologies and the people behind their creation.

### Design and details of the coin

The development of the new minting took time and the efforts of professionals. The design was created by artist Andrii Yermolenko and sculptor Volodymyr Demianenko. The coin has a face value of 5 hryvnias and is issued in a limited edition of up to 75,000 copies. Each copy will be supplied in a special souvenir package, making it attractive to collectors.

The obverse of the coin is executed in a dynamic style: the stylized state emblem of Ukraine — the trident — smoothly merges into the silhouette of the «Sea Baby» sea drone in motion. This symbolizes the unity of state will and technological progress.

The reverse depicts the unmanned vehicle itself cutting through the waves of the Black Sea. The official logo of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is placed in the upper part, and below it is the inscription «SEA BABY», executed in a military style. Special attention is paid to the letter «Y», which is stylized as a «victory» gesture — a symbol of resistance and triumph.

### History and significance of «Sea Baby»

«Sea Baby» is not just a name, but a symbol of a new era in Ukrainian defense. The first samples of this drone appeared back in 2022, and since then it has become one of the key tools in the fight against the Russian fleet. Its modular design allows the drone to be quickly adapted for different tasks: from destroying ships to mining water areas and striking coastal infrastructure.

Thanks to its versatility and autonomy, «Sea Baby» is capable of returning fire against air, surface, and ground targets, minimizing the risk to the lives of Ukrainian military personnel. It was this drone that participated in the famous attack on the Crimean Bridge, as well as causing serious damage to several ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

### When and where to buy?

Official sales of the commemorative coin will begin on July 30, 2026. It can be purchased through the NBU's official online numismatic store, as well as at distributor banks across the country. This event will be an important moment for collectors and patriots wishing to preserve the memory of the achievements of the Ukrainian defense.

Recall that earlier the NBU had already released commemorative coins dedicated to historical figures and events. For example, recently a coin was released dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the memory of Symon Petliura — one of the leaders of the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the early 20th century. Now the focus is on modern heroes and technologies that are changing the course of history.
