# Negotiations at a Dead End: Iran Refuses to Meet with the US in Doha Despite Ceasefire

Against the backdrop of the recent announcement of a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, the prospects for a long-term resolution of the conflict are under threat. The peace agreement, which was supposed to be the result of tense diplomatic efforts, has encountered an unexpected obstacle: Iran has officially refused direct negotiations with the American delegation in Qatar.

### Diplomatic Deadlock in Doha

US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, to discuss the details of implementing the agreements. However, just as the American side expected the dialogue to begin, Iranian representatives stated that they had no plans for meetings. Instead, negotiations were redirected through Qatari intermediaries.

"No meetings with the American side at any level are scheduled for the coming days," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghai. The Iranian MFA emphasized that the priority at the moment is coordinating the conditions for implementing the ceasefire regime. Only after this are the sides ready to move on to discussing more complex issues, including the Iranian nuclear program.

### Essence of the Disagreements

According to Reuters experts, Tehran's position indicates serious disagreements between the parties regarding the implementation of preliminary agreements. Key points of contention concern two areas:

    - **Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz:** This waterway remains one of the key routes for global oil exports. Iran is dissatisfied with the active activity of US aviation in the region, while Washington, in turn, accuses Tehran of attacking ships.

    - **Economic Incentives:** Issues of financial support and the lifting of restrictions proposed to Iran as part of the negotiation process also remain the subject of sharp discussions.

### White House Reaction and Escalation Risks

The White House confirmed the presence of the American delegation in Qatar. According to the Qatari side, US representatives held consultations exclusively with intermediaries, as direct contact with the Iranian delegation did not take place. Reuters notes that the current uncertainty calls into question the prospects for reaching a long-term agreement that was supposed to solidify the ceasefire regime and resolve other contentious issues.

Recall that on June 29, it became known that the parties had agreed on an immediate cessation of mutual attacks. The situation between the countries escalated against the backdrop of strikes on military facilities on both sides. Iran even threatened to terminate the previously reached memorandum if its demands were not met. Now, the diplomatic pause could turn into a new wave of tension if the parties do not find a compromise in the near future.
