Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his first visit to the south of occupied Lebanon since the security agreement was reached. Accompanied by a group of senior officials, the head of government visited IDF units stationed in the border zone to personally assess the situation and give instructions to the command.

### Visit Amidst Ceasefire

The trip to the combat zone marked Netanyahu's first such step after the governments of Israel and Lebanon reached a security agreement last Friday, mediated by the United States. The document provides for the transfer of two districts to the control of the Lebanese Army. However, the Prime Minister's visit to the area of responsibility of Israeli troops took place against the backdrop of Washington's ongoing attempts to achieve full stabilization of the situation on the border.

### Hezbollah Threat as Main Argument

During his address to the soldiers, the Israeli leader clearly outlined Jerusalem's position: the Israeli army will not leave the occupied territories in the near future. Netanyahu stated that the troops will remain in position until the threat from the Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah is eliminated, which, according to Israel, continues to receive support from Iran.

"We will hold this line until it becomes clear that there is no threat on the other side," the Prime Minister emphasized. His words sounded like a direct signal that Israel does not intend to agree to a full withdrawal of troops, insisting on the necessity of the army's presence to prevent the restoration of the fighters' military infrastructure.

### Situation in the Region

A new round of confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah began in early March. According to Israeli authorities, thousands of militants from the group were eliminated during the fighting. Nevertheless, Jerusalem claims that Hezbollah has retained a significant missile arsenal, making the situation unstable.

Despite the ceasefire reached on June 19 with US mediation, tension on the border remains. Netanyahu's visit, accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, and other representatives of the military leadership, is intended to demonstrate the firmness of Israel's position in the context of the ongoing crisis.

### Diplomatic Background

The political situation is exacerbated by difficulties in negotiations between the US and Iran. Earlier, on June 10, Netanyahu suggested that Israel might have to wage war against Iran on its own, without Washington's support. According to recent reports, the US delegation was scheduled to meet with Qatari mediators in Doha on June 30, but it was reported that the meeting with Iranian officials would not take place.
