# New payment system in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: frontline infantrymen to receive up to 460,000 hryvnias

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has approved a fundamentally new system for the financial support of military personnel. According to data published by RBC-Ukraine, the new compensation model is based on the differentiation of risks and the complexity of tasks. Now, a soldier's salary consists of a fixed base rate of 20,000 hryvnias and significant allowances for performing specific combat functions.

### Three types of contracts: from headquarters to the trench

The reform introduces three categories of contracts, each with its own accrual criteria. The logic is simple: the higher the risk and intensity of combat operations, the higher the remuneration. The system covers all defenders, including those performing combat tasks to hold positions but who have not yet signed a new contract.

The following categories have been introduced:

- **Infantry-assault contract.** Designed for those in the epicenter of combat operations: infantrymen, stormtroopers, combat medics, spotters, and driver-mechanics. This is the highest-paid category.

- **Combat contract.** Calculated for specialists whose work is critical for victory but often takes place outside the line of fire: UAV pilots, operators of ground robotic complexes (GRC), EW specialists, and artillerymen. The term of validity is 24 months.

- **Basic contract.** Provided for positions not included in combat units. The term is 24 months.

### Financial terms: figures and allowances

The most significant changes will affect the infantry. The average salary of an infantryman under the new system will be 300,000 hryvnias per month, with a maximum that can reach 460,000 hryvnias. Allowances here are calculated based on the "10/20/40" principle depending on the intensity of combat.

For specialists under the combat contract (pilots, artillerymen), the minimum payment is set at 30,000 hryvnias, and the maximum is 120,000 hryvnias per month. If such a serviceman goes to the front line, allowances are calculated according to the infantry contract scheme.

The basic contract guarantees a minimum of 30,000 hryvnias. However, if the serviceman participates in combat operations, works in headquarters or command posts, payments can increase to 120,000 hryvnias. When going to the front line, the infantry allowance scale also applies.

### Guarantees in the rear and control system

An important aspect of the reform became the issue of payment for time spent in the rear. If a serviceman is on a business trip or on leave, 10,000 hryvnias is added to the base rate. Thus, even during periods of absence from the front line, the soldier receives a guaranteed 30,000 hryvnias per month.

To ensure transparency of accruals, a *mission control* system will be introduced. It will allow fixing the actual location of the soldier at a specific moment in time, which will become the basis for calculating the corresponding allowances.

The innovations confirm previously announced plans by the country's leadership. Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko announced salary changes depending on tasks, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in December 2025 promised a threefold increase in financial support, calling the "minimum" 30,000 hryvnias.
