On the night of Saturday, October 3, 2026, the National Hockey League hosted a series of vibrant and action-packed matchups. A total of five games took place during the matchday, delivering unexpected results, confident victories for favorites, and dramatic finishes in overtime. Special attention was drawn to the performance of the New York team, as well as another disappointing outing for the reigning champion.

### Confident Start for the Rangers and Defeat of the Champion

In the opening game of the round, the New York Rangers confidently defeated Detroit away from home. The visitors demonstrated reliable defensive play and capitalized on their scoring chances, winning 2:0. Two shutout goals allowed the Rangers to secure second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, reigning NHL champion Carolina Hurricanes suffered a crushing home defeat to the Washington Capitals, losing 2:5 after conceding three unanswered goals in the opening period, marking their second consecutive loss.

### Dramatic Overtime and Tough Battles

Other games of the matchday were no less thrilling. Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets played out a tight contest with the lead changing hands multiple times, but ultimately the Bruins celebrated an overtime victory 4:3. In another matchup, the St. Louis Blues earned a shutout win against Dallas, highlighted by a fierce brawl in the second period that resulted in five-minute penalties for Arttu Hyry and Jake Neighbours.

### Conclusion of the Matchday

The final highlight of the night was the clash between the Anaheim Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights.
