# Night of Destruction in Kyiv: Aftermath of Russia's Mass Attack and Zelenskyy's Call to the West

The night of August 1 became one of the heaviest for Kyiv and the region in recent times. A massive attack by Russia left behind destroyed residential buildings, devastated streets, and burnt-out cars. Nine people were killed in the capital, and another 30 were injured, including four children.

### Destruction in the Solomianskyi District

One of the most affected areas was the Solomianskyi district of the capital. A correspondent for RBC-Ukraine visited the site of the strike, where the consequences of the attack are visible to the naked eye. Residential buildings are damaged and partially destroyed, windows were blown out by the shockwave, and parked cars nearby were either significantly damaged or completely burnt out.

Video from the scene demonstrates the scale of destruction suffered by the residential quarter. Rescuers, utility services, and law enforcement officers continue to work at the site, eliminating the consequences of the attack and documenting yet another war crime by Russia.

### Scale of the Tragedy Across the City

Destruction and fires were recorded not only in the Solomianskyi district. The Darnytskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Pecherskyi districts of Kyiv were also affected. Even the building of the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine sustained damage, highlighting the scale and precision of the strikes.

### Zelenskyy's Appeal to Partners

Following the attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that air defense forces managed to shoot down only one ballistic missile due to a shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. He urged partners to accelerate the delivery of air and missile defense systems to Ukraine, noting that every additional package of anti-ballistic missiles helps save the lives of civilians.
