On the night of June 5, Ukraine faced one of the largest air attacks in recent times. Russian forces launched 216 attack drones and two guided air-to-surface missiles at the country's territory. Despite the sheer number of attackers, Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down the overwhelming majority of targets, although some hits did occur.

### Scale and Routes of the Attack

According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, the attack was launched from several directions. Two Kh-59/69 missiles were launched from the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region. The main strike was carried out by drones: they were launched from the territories of Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from Chauda in occupied Crimea.

The enemy's arsenal included various types of unmanned aerial vehicles: classic "Shaheds," jet drones, "Herbers," "Italmases," "Bandera" loitering munitions, and "Parody" decoy drones designed to overload air defense systems.

### Air Defense Operations and Results of Repulsion

The country's defense was carried out by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare (EW) units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups. As of 07:30 in the morning, air defense forces reported shooting down or suppressing 198 enemy drones in the north, south, and east of the country.

The guided air-to-surface missiles failed to reach their targets and were shot down. However, it was not possible to completely avoid losses: hits from 16 attack drones were recorded at 13 locations. In addition, debris from shot-down drones was recorded falling at 12 locations.

The Air Force warned that the attack is ongoing and that enemy UAVs remain in the airspace, urging citizens to follow safety rules.

### Context: Strikes on the Eve

The night attack was a continuation of a series of strikes launched by Russian troops in the previous days. On June 4, Russian forces attacked a road construction site, destroying 10 pieces of equipment. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of this strike.

Also on the eve, Russian troops struck Dnipro for the second day in a row. As a result of one of the attacks, a fire broke out on the territory of a logistics company. Messages about the shelling of the "Nova Poshta" terminal appeared on social media, but there was no official confirmation of this fact at the time of publication.

### Destruction of Cultural Heritage

One of the most tragic consequences of recent shelling was the destruction of a historical monument in the Sumy region. In the village of Yunakovka, Russian occupiers destroyed the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This building, which was one of the outstanding architectural monuments of the region, stood for more than two centuries. Only ruins remain of the shrine now.
