# Night without light in Crimea: UAV strikes on substations in Alushta and the Southern Coast

The night of July 20, 2026, became a time of anxiety and uncertainty for the residents of the Crimean Peninsula. During the dark hours, the region's energy infrastructure was subjected to a series of strikes using unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result of the attack, significant power outages were recorded in several settlements, including the resort town of Alushta and settlements on the Southern Coast of Crimea.

Events unfolded rapidly. Around 00:40 local time, a series of powerful explosions were heard in Alushta and surrounding areas. Local residents and witnesses reported a sudden blackout in the districts immediately following the sounds of the strikes. Key nodes of the power system, ensuring the life support of resort zones, fell within the impact zone.

According to satellite monitoring data, the main targets in the Alushta region were electrical substations. Critical damage was recorded at the "Privetnoye" facility (voltage 110/10 kV) and at the "Alushta" substation. Local fires of equipment broke out on the territory of these nodes. The status of the "Privetnoye" PS is particularly concerning: equipped with two power transformers with a total capacity of 50 MVA, it is responsible for distributing electricity in the resort zones of Kanakskaya Balka and adjacent rural areas.

The domino effect spread far beyond Alushta. Similar reports of explosions and power outages came from the Yalta district (in the area of the "Darsan" substation), as well as from Feodosia, Kerch, and Balaklava. The scale of the incident was so serious that traffic on the Crimean Bridge had to be temporarily suspended during the emergency response period.

Official representatives of regional power grid companies confirmed the fact of external impact on key facilities. To stabilize the load on the main networks in the Southern and Western power districts, phased or technological restrictions on electricity supply were introduced. Emergency crews of specialized services have already begun to assess the extent of equipment damage and switch consumers to backup power schemes as technically feasible.

Experts remind that according to the norms of international humanitarian law and national legislation, objects of civil energy infrastructure are subject to enhanced legal protection. Final damage assessments and compensation procedures will be established based on the results of official technical and legal expert examinations.
