**August 15, 2026**, marked a new tragedy for Zaporizhzhia. On the night leading into Sunday, the Russian army launched a massive drone attack on the city, targeting both civilian infrastructure and industrial facilities. The most extensive damage was recorded at the 'Epicenter' shopping mall, where a major fire broke out, as well as on the territory of one of the region's key industrial enterprises.

### Scale of destruction at the 'Epicenter' shopping mall

According to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the drone strike caused a fire inside the shopping center. The fire area, according to preliminary estimates, covered about 10,000 square meters. Rescue teams and other emergency services promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and assess the damage. The interior of the mall, including retail halls and warehouse areas, suffered serious damage from the fire and the blast wave.

### Strike on industrial infrastructure

In addition to the civilian object, Russian kamikaze drones attacked the territory of one of Zaporizhzhia's industrial enterprises. Although the exact name of the enterprise has not yet been disclosed, it is known that the strike hit the production zone. As a result of the attack, local fires broke out, and communications and equipment were damaged. At the time of publication, there were no reports of casualties among the enterprise staff, although employees were evacuated on an urgent basis.

### Contradictory data

While official sources confirm the fact of the strike and the fire at the 'Epicenter' mall, there are discrepancies in the assessment of the scale of destruction. Some local media and eyewitnesses report more significant damage, including the collapse of part of the building's structures. At the same time, administration representatives emphasize that the main load-bearing elements of the building remained intact, and the evacuation took place without casualties. There is also no single version regarding the number of drones used — some sources cite a figure of 5 to 7, while others mention up to 10 units.

### Context: series of attacks on 'Epicenter' in August 2026

This is not the first strike on 'Epicenter' network facilities this month. In early August, Russian missiles hit the company's logistics and production centers, resulting in one death and the effective destruction of one of Ukraine's largest ceramic tile production facilities. On August 12, a strike on another shopping mall in Zaporizhzhia was also recorded, leading to power outages in parts of the city and fires in private homes. The current attack on August 15 indicates a systematic nature of strikes against the region's commercial and industrial infrastructure.

### Government response and recovery prospects

Ivan Fedorov urged residents to remain calm and follow safety rules. He also noted that all necessary resources to eliminate the consequences of the strike have already been mobilized. The authorities promise to conduct a full damage assessment within 24–48 hours. The issue of restoring damaged facilities, especially the 'Epicenter' mall, will become one of the priorities in the near future, although the timelines and scope of work are not yet determined.
