A new phase of strategic partnership is gaining momentum in Berlin and Paris, which could reshape the security architecture in Europe. According to Der Spiegel, Germany and France have begun discussing issues of nuclear deterrence. This step became possible after the German Chancellor's security advisor arrived in Paris for the first round of negotiations.

### Joint Statement by Leaders

On March 2, the official website of the German government published a joint statement by Friedrich Merz and Emmanuel Macron. In the document, the politicians announced the creation of a special task force aimed at preparing for emergencies. This decision marks a transition from rhetorical promises to concrete actions in the sphere of defense.

### Access to French Nuclear Facilities

A key element of the new agreement is the authorization for representatives of the Bundeswehr (German armed forces) to participate in French nuclear exercises. Furthermore, German specialists will gain access to French nuclear facilities. The first joint exercises are scheduled for September 2026. This level of integration allows Berlin to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of its ally's nuclear shield.

### Expansion of the Coalition

France is not limiting itself to a partnership with Germany alone. Paris intends to establish closer cooperation in this area with a number of other European countries. The list of states planned for active interaction includes the United Kingdom, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Greece. This indicates a desire to create a broad security network relying on French nuclear potential.

### Response to Geopolitical Tensions

These steps are being discussed against the backdrop of growing concerns regarding nuclear proliferation. Earlier, Mikhail Podolyak, an advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, stated that the main preventive measure against threats is to refrain from flirting with authoritarian regimes. In his opinion, such diplomacy only leads to increased aggression and severe consequences, making issues of reliable protection and deterrence extremely relevant for Europe.
