## 🎯 Key Points

- 125-140 sq km de-occupied in Donetsk region
- Operation conducted by the 3rd Army Corps
- Monthly Russian losses rose to 42,000 personnel
- Offensive may disrupt enemy plans toward Sloviansk

The Ukrainian offensive operation Vivaldi, conducted by the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk region, is demonstrating impressive results and continues to develop. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a comment to Reuters, emphasizing the high effectiveness of the forces involved and the strategic significance of the maneuvers on the eastern front.

According to the head of state, as of early October 2026, approximately 125-140 square kilometers of territory have already been returned to Ukrainian control. The president noted that the operation is still ongoing, so its final results will be summed up after the completion of all planned combat stages.

### Contradictory Data

Open sources and reports from various agencies show some discrepancies in estimates of the liberated areas. Earlier reports from the 3rd Army Corps and specialized publications indicated a figure of 85 square kilometers of cleared land. However, the latest official statements from the country's top leadership include a broader scope and refined data taking into account recent successes in the Lyman-Borova direction.

### Analysis of Losses

Volodymyr Zelenskyy separately addressed the issue of enemy losses, noting a sharp increase in the number of killed and severely wounded Russian military personnel over the past 23 months. While previously the monthly enemy losses stood at 30,000-32,000 people, this figure has now risen to approximately 42,000 people per month, including 21,000-22,000 killed. Such dynamics indicate the severe consequences of the Russian defensive tactics for their personnel.

### Background and Strategic Prospects

As the Ukrainian leader noted, the planning of this large-scale offensive operation began a year ago, but the command decided to temporarily postpone its start due to insufficient force readiness. The justification for this step is confirmed by current successes and a minimal level of casualties among Ukrainian servicemen compared to the enemy. Experts note that the successful actions of the 3rd Army Corps could disrupt Russia's plans for a large-scale offensive on Sloviansk.
