# Orbán under fire: Hungarian prosecutors raid Fidesz party headquarters

A major political scandal is unfolding in Hungary. The country's prosecution service has conducted investigative actions in offices housing the servers of the Fidesz party — the political force of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The event, which the party itself is already calling unprecedented, marks another stage in the process of a change of power and the restructuring of the state system.

### "Unprecedented since 1990"

Representatives of Fidesz stated that law enforcement officers arrived at the offices without prior notice. The objective of the visit was the seizure of communication systems and the political force's databases. The party's statement contains sharp accusations against the current authorities.

"Since 1990, since the fall of communism in Hungary, there have been no such precedents," Fidesz emphasized, calling the situation pressure from an "authoritarian regime".

### Official version: a case regarding a foundation

At the same time, Marianna Bodo, press secretary of the Chief Prosecution Service of Hungary, confirmed the fact of the investigative actions but refuted information about the seizure of the party's servers. According to her, the investigation is being conducted by the prosecution service of the Bács-Kiskun district.

The case was opened against the National Cultural Foundation. The grounds for the check were suspicions of mismanagement and the commission of other offenses. Details of the proceedings are not yet disclosed in the interests of the investigation.

### Prime Minister's reaction and context of events

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar drew attention to the need for transparency. He noted that society expects clear explanations from the prosecution service: exactly what proceedings are being investigated and exactly what materials were seized during the visit.

These events are taking place against the backdrop of an active "reboot" of the country's political system, which Magyar initiated after his election victory. Deputies have already approved amendments to the Constitution that make it impossible for Viktor Orbán to return to the post of Prime Minister. In parallel, the largest state television channel M1 has ceased producing news programs and publicly apologized to viewers for years of spreading lies.
