# Pashinyan Retains Power: Armenian Election Results and the Country's Geopolitical Choice

On Sunday, June 14, the Central Election Commission of Armenia announced the final results of the parliamentary elections held the previous week. The voting results confirmed the political dominance of the incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, although the composition of the new parliament turned out to be significantly narrower than expected.

### Three Parties — One Parliament

According to official data, representatives of only three political forces will enter the new convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia. The winner was the "Civil Contract" party, led by Nikol Pashinyan. The significant number of mandates received by the party gives it the ability to form a new government independently without the need to seek coalition partners.

Along with the ruling party, two pro-Russian political forces entered parliament: the "Strong Armenia" party, led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, and the "Armenia" bloc, headed by former president Robert Kocharyan.

### Dramatic Outcome for "Prosperous Armenia"

One of the main intrigues of the election was the fate of the "Prosperous Armenia" party (PPA). The final vote count showed that the party failed to overcome the minimum threshold of 4%. Despite the fact that during the recount the PPA votes increased by 147 units, the voting results at three polling stations were declared invalid, resulting in the loss of 222 votes.

The situation remains unclear: if the Central Election Commission decides to hold a re-vote at the disputed polling stations, the party may gain the missing dozens of votes and still enter the new parliament.

### Geopolitical Pressure

The political map of Armenia continues to be a field of geopolitical contradictions. Nikol Pashinyan's party traditionally adheres to a pro-European course. Against this background, a week before the elections, countries participating in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) expressed concern over Yerevan's choice.

In particular, the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan called on Armenia to determine its geopolitical vector as soon as possible, proposing to hold a referendum on the future direction of the country's development.
