# Peskov on 'ceasefire in the air': Kremlin awaits details and assesses benefits

The Kremlin has adopted a wait-and-see stance regarding reports of potential negotiations between the US and Ukraine on halting air attacks. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov called any comments on the matter premature, noting that for now, it is merely "newspaper reports".

### Moscow's reaction to peace initiatives

According to the Kremlin representative, Russia's reaction to any new peace initiative will depend solely on how well it serves the interests of the Russian Federation. "We have heard statements that some new formulas may be possible. We still need to learn more about them," Peskov emphasized in a comment cited by RBC-Ukraine via Reuters.

Nevertheless, the Presidential Administration confirmed that channels of dialogue with American negotiators remain functional.

### The essence of the proposal and context

Earlier, Reuters sources reported that Ukrainian and US officials are discussing a proposal for a so-called "ceasefire in the air". The essence of the initiative is the mutual cessation of missile strikes and drone attacks. It is expected that this document may be presented to Moscow to resume the peace process.

Analysts believe that some officials are counting on the fact that significant pressure on the Russian economy, caused by regular Ukrainian drone and missile strikes on critical infrastructure, may soften the Kremlin's position.

### Diplomatic activity

This week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the prospects of resuming negotiations with US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to reports, the Ukrainian leader is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington as early as Tuesday.

### Position of the Russian leadership

The Russian leadership continues to insist on its conditions. Vladimir Putin again objected to ending the conflict, shifting the blame to the West and seeking justification for continuing aggression. Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that the Kremlin is actively manipulating external rhetoric. In particular, Putin used Kazakhstan's call for a war freeze for his own purposes to reject the idea of stopping hostilities along the front line and justify the continuation of the conflict.
