Only exercises by Ukrainian military personnel with these systems, which took place on German territory, had been officially confirmed. Now, thanks to Pistorius's words, the fact of the equipment entering service has become public. ### History of deliveries and secrecy According to the minister, the first machine of this type was transferred to Ukraine about two years ago. Pistorius pointed to a specific location on the plant's territory where that very first howitzer sent to Ukraine stood. This revelation sheds light on the fact that the transfer of equipment began earlier than assumed by open sources. Until today, it was unknown whether these howitzers had been used in actual combat operations. The publication Bild notes that the fact of their presence on the front lines remained undisclosed until now, despite active discussion in expert circles. ### Technical specifications and contract scale The RCH-155 self-propelled howitzer is considered one of the most modern in the world. It is a wheeled howitzer that is highly valued by the Ukrainian side for its tactical and technical capabilities. In 2024, the Franco-German arms conglomerate KNDS signed an agreement with Ukraine to supply 54 such units. The history of cooperation regarding this system began even earlier. In February 2023, testing of the RCH-155 began in Germany, after which Ukraine gained the opportunity to purchase them. Previously, RBC-Ukraine reported that Pistorius transferred the first RCH 155 in January 2025, however, the minister's current statements shift this date back by two years. The new batch of vehicles is intended to significantly strengthen Ukrainian artillery, ensuring high mobility and fire accuracy on the battlefield.
