# Crimea under threat: Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk confirms preparations for an amphibious landing

Ukrainian military forces are actively rehearsing amphibious operations, compelling the Russian command to seriously reconsider the defense of the occupied peninsula. Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Navy, confirmed in an interview with Kyiv Independent that Russia views the potential landing of Ukrainian marines in Crimea as a real threat.

### The enemy is strengthening defenses

According to Pletenchuk, there is a fundamental military rule: territory is not considered liberated until infantry steps onto it. For the Navy, this task falls to the marine corps. Currently, Ukrainian units are practicing the tactics of conducting landing operations.

"The enemy views this as a real threat. The Russians are reinforcing areas in Crimea vulnerable to amphibious landings because they consider it quite likely," the spokesperson noted.

Pletenchuk emphasized that amphibious operations are extremely complex and are conducted only as part of a broader offensive strategy. However, he did not rule them out if necessary for the liberation of Crimea.

### The complexities of "Omaha"

The Navy spokesperson compared a potential landing in Crimea to the historic operation on "Omaha" beach during World War II. Ukrainian troops would have to overcome fortified and mined coastlines, machine-gun nests, and bunkers under active enemy air support. This requires colossal preparation and coordination of forces.

### Logistical crisis for the occupiers

Alongside preparations for the landing, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are striking logistical hubs connecting the peninsula to the mainland. A series of attacks has led to serious problems with transport connectivity in Crimea:

- **June 7:** The first strike on the Chonhar Bridge occurred. Traffic on the crossing was partially resumed in a reversible mode.

- **June 9:** The object was attacked by drones again, forcing a complete halt to transport communications. The occupation administration began recommending detour routes through Yevpatoria and Perekop.

- **The Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council** stated that the series of strikes effectively took the Chonhar Bridge out of service.

- **June 10:** In the morning, the bridge between Henerichne and the Arabat Spit was blocked — the second important crossing, traffic on which was restricted shortly after the attacks on the Chonhar Bridge.

- **Night of June 11:** In occupied Crimea, there were reports of explosions and fires in Simferopol and Sevastopol, as well as possible damage to bridges.

- **June 13:** Russians again reported attacks on bridges leading to Crimea. The head of the occupation administration of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, confirmed a drone strike on the bridge between Henerichne and the Arabat Spit.

The combination of preparations for landing operations and systematic strikes on infrastructure creates an extremely difficult situation for the occupation authorities, forcing them to redistribute resources to strengthen defenses and find alternative supply routes.
