# Poland will not change its course of supporting Ukraine but will demand 'goodwill' from Kyiv: Tusk statement

Poland intends to continue supporting Ukraine, however, Warsaw is calling on Kyiv to show goodwill to reduce tensions in bilateral relations. This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, whose words are cited by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Polskieradio24.

### Balance between support and border protection

Tusk assured that Poland will not change its position regarding the necessity of supporting Ukraine during future negotiations. At the same time, he urged Polish officials to be more cautious in statements about further financial aid. According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine is in a state of war, but Poland bears the main burden of protecting its border, as well as performing the function of a barrier for all of Europe against threats from the east.

"It should be treated with special attention," emphasized the head of the Polish government.

### Call for an honest dialogue

Tusk noted that he already sees "signals of realization" by Ukrainian politicians of the harm caused by escalation, for which they bear responsibility. He called for finding ways for an honest conversation about the past and avoiding further aggravation of relations.

"Good Polish-Ukrainian relations serve mutual interests, but for this, mutual goodwill is necessary," said the Prime Minister.

### End of unilateral concessions

Warsaw can no longer be the only side demonstrating goodwill, Tusk noted. At the same time, he expressed hope that Kyiv's tough stance would not be accompanied by contempt or hostility, as this would not lead to significant results.

### Context: Pantheon and EU accession

Tusk's statement came against the backdrop of criticism in the Office of the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, regarding Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decision to submit a bill on the creation of a National Pantheon. In Warsaw, this step was called "actions of an escalatory nature".

Furthermore, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz recently emphasized that Warsaw will not support Ukraine's accession to the EU if Kyiv continues to honor certain historical figures.
