# Poland's Digital Shield: How the Modernized Eurodac and EES System Are Changing the Rules at EU Borders

Poland has taken another step towards the digitization of border control by activating the modernized version of the Eurodac system. The new tool is already operational, supporting the police and border guard in the fight against illegal migration and cross-border crime. This is reported in official data from the Polish Ministry of the Interior.

### Technology Against Illegal Migrants

Modernized Eurodac is not just a fingerprint database. The system now collects a comprehensive data package: from biometrics to alphanumeric information, including passport numbers and travel document data. This allows for the creation of a more accurate digital profile for every foreigner crossing the border.

Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration of Poland, Tomasz Siemianowski, emphasized the strategic importance of updating the platform. According to him, this solution radically simplifies information exchange between European Union member states.

"This solution allows for more effective identification of individuals attempting to cross borders illegally, ensuring better cooperation between services and strengthening protection," Siemianowski noted.

### Poland — A Leader in Biometrics

The launch of the updated Eurodac became part of a large-scale EU program to implement security IT systems. Poland demonstrates leading indicators here, remaining the leader of the European Union in the quality of biometric data registration.

It is important to note that this is not the only tool in the arsenal of Polish border guards. Since October 12, 2025, the Entry/Exit System (EES) has already been functioning in the country. It registers biometric data of third-country nationals crossing the borders of the Schengen Area.

The EES system has been deployed at all 71 border crossing points in Poland. The statistics of the system's work are impressive: thanks to it, border guards have already prevented the entry of 11,000 foreigners who did not meet the admission criteria.

### New Rules for Labor Migrants

Alongside the tightening of border control, Warsaw is changing the rules of the game for migrants already in the country. From July 8, 2026, updated norms for the control of employment contracts will come into force in Poland.

The Labor Inspectorate (PIP) receives expanded powers: the agency will be able to forcibly reclassify civil law contracts (umowa cywilnoprawna) into full employment contracts (umowa o pracę). This innovation is aimed at protecting workers' rights and regulating the labor market.

Previously, the Polish government also adopted a bill simplifying the procedure for foreigners to acquire real estate. The main goal of these changes was the digitization of processes and the regulation of control, which together create a new, more transparent environment for the interaction of the state and foreign citizens.
