Another incident occurred in the airspace bordering Poland over the Baltic Sea. On July 31, a pair of Polish F-16 fighters was scrambled to intercept a Russian Il-20 electronic intelligence aircraft. This was announced by Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

According to the head of the Polish defense ministry, the incident took place in the first half of the day. The interception was carried out approximately 40 kilometers north of the city of Kołobrzeg, located on the Baltic coast. The Russian aircraft was flying in international airspace, but its actions caused serious concern among Polish military officials.

### Violation of Flight Rules

The key feature of this flight was that the Russian Il-20 was flying without a previously coordinated flight plan. Furthermore, the transponder on board the aircraft was turned off — a device that allows ground services and other aircraft to identify the aircraft and track its trajectory.

“The Russian aircraft once again flew in international airspace. The transponder was switched off,” emphasized Kosiniak-Kamysz. Despite the aggressive nature of the flight, the minister noted that there was no violation of Poland's own airspace.

### Escalation of Tensions in the Region

This incident is not an isolated case. In recent weeks, the activity of Russian military aircraft near the borders of Poland and NATO countries has increased significantly. Just two weeks before the interception of the Il-20, on July 15, two Russian Su-30SM2 fighters approached the site of Polish air defense exercises.

Even earlier, on July 14, a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft also approached Polish airspace over the Baltic Sea. On that occasion, a pair of fighters was also promptly scrambled for interception. The repetition of such situations indicates the systematic nature of Russian aviation actions in the region.

### Change in Russian Tactics

The Polish defense ministry believes that Russia has changed its tactics in the Baltic Sea region. According to experts, Moscow is closely monitoring NATO exercises conducted near its borders and is preparing the ground for possible provocations.

Polish authorities emphasize that their fighters are acting strictly within the framework of international law and flight safety rules. The interception of Russian aircraft is carried out solely to monitor their actions and prevent potential threats. At the same time, Poland remains vigilant and is ready for any scenario of events in the skies over the Baltic.
