In the south of Portugal, in the Algarve region, a large-scale operation has been launched to strengthen control over the maritime border. The Maritime Police and the country's Navy have begun daily patrols in response to the unprecedented migration crisis engulfing the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.

### Comprehensive coastal patrol

Portuguese authorities have decided on coordinated actions covering both the maritime area and the coastal strip. According to official statements by the Navy, the deployed forces are aimed at strengthening surveillance, detection, and interception of vessels that may be involved in organizing illegal migration or other unlawful activities.

Representatives of the security forces emphasized that maritime security is a common mission. In this regard, an appeal was made to the public: citizens are asked to cooperate with the authorities and immediately report any suspicious activities in coastal areas.

### Political context and Lisbon's position

The escalation of security measures in Portugal is taking place against the backdrop of a sharp crisis in Spain. On Friday, the Portuguese government officially stated its position regarding proposals to suspend Spain's membership in the Schengen zone. In Lisbon, such steps were considered excessive, despite calls from several European countries.

Officials noted that they are in constant contact with Spanish authorities to coordinate actions. It is worth noting that in Ceuta, nearly 60,000 people broke through in the last 24 hours, marking the largest migration incident in recent years. Military forces were deployed to the Spanish city to stabilize the situation.

### International community reaction

The events in Ceuta have caused a wide resonance in Europe and beyond. European Commissioner for Migration Magnus Brunner stated that further movement of migrants deeper into EU countries is not expected. Nevertheless, a number of European leaders continue to insist on the temporary suspension of Spain's participation in the Schengen Agreement.

The incident also received a separate response at the US level. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, calling the mass influx of migrants into Ceuta an "invasion".
