# Psychological Warfare: How Russia Uses Attack Delays Against Ukrainians

War is not just a clash of armed forces on the battlefield. It is also a battle for the minds and nerves of the civilian population. Andriy Yushov, a representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, has revealed a new facet of the enemy's tactics: demonstrating readiness to strike followed by postponing the attack. According to him, this is not a coincidence but a well-thought-out element of psychological pressure.

### The Tactics of "Ghost" Attacks

During his speech at the international forum "Architecture of Security," Yushov emphasized that Russia combines direct military impact with methods aimed at exhausting the morale of Ukrainians. "Of course, this is also an element of pressure and psychological impact — demonstrating readiness for shelling, then delaying, postponing. It is clear that this is the enemy's tactic — to combine direct military impact with psychological impact on Ukrainians," he noted.

This strategy is designed to keep the population in a state of constant tension. People, upon hearing a warning of a possible attack, are forced to hide in shelters, postpone their affairs, and lose sleep — even if the strike never follows. Such signals cannot be ignored: the cost of a mistake is too high.

### Fatigue as the Enemy's Weapon

Yushov reminded that Ukrainians have been living under conditions of full-scale war for more than four years. Accumulated fatigue, anxiety, and fear — all of this becomes a factor that Russia counts on. Psychological pressure amplifies the effect of real strikes, making life even harder.

Nevertheless, the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to prepare for every possible shelling. Intelligence actively gathers information, analyzes threats, and transmits data to the military-political leadership. Citizens, meanwhile, are advised to take air raid signals seriously and not neglect safety measures.

### Record Strike and New Threats

The reminder of the reality of threats is particularly relevant following the events of the night of May 24. Then, Russia launched one of the largest air strikes of the entire war. 90 missiles of various types — including the "Oreshnik" medium-range ballistic missile — and 600 attack drones were fired at Kyiv and the region.

For the capital, this shelling became a record in terms of the number of damaged objects since the beginning of the invasion. Consequences of the attack were recorded in every district. Three people died, and almost 90 were injured.

Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ministry of Defense warned of the threat of new strikes at the end of May. Residents, especially Kyiv residents, were urged to be particularly vigilant on May 30–31 and strictly observe safety rules.

### Enemy Resources and Prospects

According to estimates by RBC-Ukraine sources, Russia has the resources to conduct massive missile-drone strikes on average every 5–10 days — taking into account the time for reconnaissance and target selection. This means that the threat remains constant, and psychological pressure is part of everyday life.

Under these conditions, it is important to remain vigilant, trust official sources, and not succumb to panic. War requires not only physical resilience but also mental stability. And it is precisely here — in the ability to hold up under pressure — that one of Ukraine's main victories lies.
