Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the occasion of his birthday. In the message, published on the official Kremlin website, the Russian leader emphasized the traditionally friendly nature of the ties between the two countries and expressed interest in their further steady development.

"Dear Nikol Vovayevich, please accept my sincere congratulations on your birthday. The relations between our countries and peoples are traditionally friendly. And we are interested in their further steady development," the text of the telegram reads. Vladimir Putin also wished the Armenian Prime Minister health, well-being, and success. On June 1, Nikol Pashinyan turned 51 years old.

On the same day, after receiving the congratulations, the heads of state held a telephone conversation. The parties discussed current issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda. The press service of the Prime Minister of Armenia reported that Nikol Pashinyan thanked his Russian colleague for the congratulations, support, and "balanced positions on a number of issues that give rise to various interpretations."

As a result of the conversation, it was decided to continue the dialogue in the format of a personal meeting at the earliest convenient opportunity. The conversation took place against the backdrop of a complex geopolitical situation and discussions surrounding Yerevan's foreign policy course.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin, commenting on Armenia's course towards rapprochement with the European Union, warned of possible economic risks. The Russian President stated that the crisis in Ukraine began with attempts to join the EU and noted that Armenia's exit from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) could lead to a loss of about 14% of the country's GDP and an increase in energy prices.

Moscow is also consistently reacting to statements by Ukrainian authorities. The Kremlin reacted sharply to statements made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the European Political Community summit in Yerevan. At the same time, Russia is introducing restrictions on Armenian exports.

On May 28, Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the Armenian side had received notification of the possibility of denouncing the agreement on the supply of petroleum products in the event of Armenia's accession to the EU. Later, Yerevan confirmed receipt of the corresponding letter from the Russian Minister of Energy. Thus, the diplomatic dialogue between Moscow and Yerevan continues against the backdrop of mutual concessions and tough economic signals.
