# Putin in Astana: Why the President's Convoy Looked Like a Column in the SVO Zone

Vladimir Putin's visit to Kazakhstan turned into a demonstration of military might. The convoy of the Russian leader, who arrived in Astana on a state visit, resembled not a diplomatic procession but a column moving under combat conditions. The escort of the Kremlin chief included armored vehicles with turrets, helicopters, and, presumably, vehicles with electronic warfare systems.

### Armored Vehicle with a Machine Gunner and Military Escort

According to observers and OSINT analysts, the column of approximately 20 cars and 14 motorcycles was closed by a military armored vehicle. Experts lean towards the idea that this is an "Alan" type vehicle, equipped with a place for mounting a heavy machine gun on the roof. Although a representative of the CIT research group admits that the turret could be partially open without real armament, the very fact of the presence of such equipment in the convoy raises questions.

### Security According to SVO Standards

The organization of the route in Astana was carried out with unprecedented severity. Streets were blocked by armored vehicles, and along the route of travel, soldiers in camouflage with weapons were lined up. Air cover was provided by a helicopter, which monitored the situation over the column. Also, in the escort, a car with a structure on the roof was noticed, presumably intended for EW systems or communications.

### Political Context of the Visit

On May 27, Putin arrived in Kazakhstan, and the next day held talks with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Independence Palace. The State Guard Service of Kazakhstan confirmed temporary traffic restrictions, explaining them by the need to ensure security with the participation of special services and military units. This visit became a continuation of the active diplomatic activity of the Kremlin: shortly before this, Putin visited China, where together with Xi Jinping he signed a declaration on a "multipolar world" and criticized Donald Trump's "Golden Dome" project.
