# Radiation Threat in Chernihiv: Russia Used Uranium Munitions on 'Geran-2' Drones

During the shelling of the Chernihiv region, which took place from April to June, Ukrainian specialists detected the use of munitions containing depleted uranium by Russian troops. Dangerous elements were found in the debris of 'Geran-2' type strike unmanned aerial vehicles.

### Critical Exceedance of Radiation Background

Investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), together with specialists from the State Emergency Service (SES), conducted a detailed radiological survey of the impact sites. The results were shocking: in areas where debris from enemy drones was found, radiation levels exceeded the natural background by 80 times.

Measurements showed that gamma radiation levels from individual fragments ranged from 8.3 to 24 microsieverts per hour (µSv/h). For comparison, the permissible sanitary norm is only 0.3 µSv/h. Such a level of radiation poses a direct threat not only to human health but also to the environment.

### Technical Details: R-60M Missiles on Drones

The investigation revealed that the occupiers adapted R-60M missiles for use on their drones. Expertise confirmed that the warheads of these missiles contain nuclear materials — Uranium-235 and Uranium-238 isotopes. The presence of radioactive components was recorded using professional dosimetric equipment and a mobile radiological complex.

At present, all discovered dangerous munitions have been neutralized, and areas with elevated radiation levels have been decontaminated. Nevertheless, the SBU urges citizens to observe strict safety precautions: in the event of discovering drone or missile debris, do not approach them; emergency services must be called immediately.

### Criminal Proceedings and Threat of Provocations

In connection with the use of weapons containing nuclear materials, the SBU has opened a criminal case under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for war crimes.

Specialists from the agency also warned about possible provocations by the aggressor state. Russia may be preparing attacks under a false flag against NATO member countries, particularly Poland and the Baltic states. The goal of such actions could be to weaken Western support for Ukraine. Specifically, this refers to the possible use of drones disguised as Ukrainian ones to strike at the territories of allies.
