# Record Attack: Russia Used Eight 'Zircon' Missiles and Nearly 700 Drones Against Ukraine

Ukraine has faced an unprecedented missile and drone strike in terms of scale and composition. According to Yuri Ignat, Head of the Air Force Communications Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia launched a record number of 'Zircon' hypersonic missiles — eight units in a single wave of attack. This is the largest number of simultaneous uses of this type of weapon, as the spokesperson stated during a televised marathon.

### Scale and Geography of the Strike

The total volume of the attack amounted to impressive figures: 73 missiles and 656 attack unmanned aerial vehicles were launched from the Russian side. According to Ignat, most of the missiles flew on a ballistic trajectory. The attack was spread out in time and space: four missiles were launched in the morning, and another four — from the temporarily occupied Crimea from the southern direction.

The geography of the strike differed significantly from the massive attack that occurred on May 24. If the capital was the main vector then, this time the strikes hit Dnipro, Kharkiv region, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava region, and other areas. Despite the expansion of the geography, Kyiv remained the main target, suffering heavy blows along with other cities.

### Results of Air Defense Work

The Ukrainian air defense system demonstrated high efficiency in intercepting cruise missiles. Out of 27 Kh-101 missiles, 26 were shot down, and three 'Kalibr' missiles were also intercepted. The situation with ballistic missiles was more complex: only 11 of them were shot down, which led to 30 recorded hits on objects on Ukrainian territory.

As for drones, out of nearly 700 launched drones, the majority were shot down by air defense forces. The Russian side actively used 'Zircon' anti-ship missiles, ballistic and cruise missiles, attempting to suppress the enemy's defense.

### Consequences of the Attack

The night attack resulted in human casualties and significant destruction in several cities. In Kyiv, residential buildings and other infrastructure objects were damaged. In Dnipro, housing destruction was recorded, and in Kharkiv, administrative buildings were damaged. The situation remains tense, and Ukrainian defenders continue to repel enemy attempts to damage critical infrastructure and the population.
