A high-profile disciplinary hearing has taken place in the Ukrainian army, affecting one of the most well-known battalions. Major Serhiy Filimonov, commander of the 108th Separate Assault Battalion, received a reprimand from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. The reason for the punishment was the unlawful actions of the unit's servicemen, recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Official Order No. 270, signed on June 27, 2026, was announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Filimonov, in turn, confirmed the fact of punishment on social media with a laconic message: "Received a reprimand from Syrskyi. Serving the Ukrainian nation".

### Details of the Incident in Shakhtarsk

The disciplinary sanction was the result of an internal investigation that lasted from May 2026. The focus of law enforcement was an incident that occurred on May 1 in the city of Shakhtarsk. At that time, three servicemen of the 108th Separate Assault Battalion were detained.

The servicemen were suspected of committing serious criminal offenses. According to the case materials, the charges involve Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unlawful deprivation of liberty or kidnapping) and Article 296 (hooliganism). The investigation showed that the unit commander violated the requirements of the Disciplinary Statute and the Internal Service Statute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition to Filimonov, disciplinary sanctions were also imposed on other servicemen of the battalion involved in the events.

### Scandal Surrounding Dmytro Koziatynskyi

Another controversy has erupted around the 108th Battalion, previously known as the "Wolves of Da Vinci". Media reports emerged stating that Dmytro Koziatynskyi, an activist who called on Ukrainians to protest after the resignation of Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, served in the unit.

According to sources, the command allegedly sought Koziatynskyi. However, Alina Mykhailova, the head of the medical service of the battalion "Wolf", refuted these rumors. She stated that Koziatynskyi was indeed a combat medic but had left the army a year ago and no longer has any connection to the Armed Forces.

Mykhailova commented on the situation as an attempt at pressure: "Today they are chasing military personnel who express their opinion and go on peaceful protests even during their legal leave".

### History of Appointment

The appointment of Serhiy Filimonov as commander of the 108th Battalion in February 2024 also did not go smoothly. At that time, it was accompanied by a scandal, as Yuri Kapustyak simultaneously claimed the right to command the unit. Now, more than two years later, Filimonov has faced the consequences of his subordinates' actions, receiving an official sanction from the top command.
