# Revolution in Schools: New Model of Vocational Education Launched in Ukraine from 2027

The secondary education system in Ukraine is preparing for major changes. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a standard educational program for vocational secondary education. This decision radically changes the approach to teaching in upper grades, offering students a real choice between classical academic preparation and an in-depth vocational track.

### Double Diploma and Path Choice

From September 1, 2027, students moving into the 10th grade will be able to independently determine the vector of their development for the first time. The vocational track is not a rejection of general education, but its integration with practice. The program is designed for three years and includes 180 ECTS credits. Upon completion of the course, graduates will receive two important documents: a certificate of complete general secondary education and confirmation of professional qualification.

This model allows students to either start working in their specialty immediately after school or continue their education at a university, already having a serious foundation.

### How the Training Will Be Structured

The new program is based on the principle of gradual immersion into the profession. The first year is devoted to adaptation, followed by in-depth study of profile subjects and the development of practical skills.

The structure of the curriculum is flexible and oriented towards the specifics of the chosen field:

  - More than a third of the entire program will be devoted to profile disciplines.

  - Over 11% of the time is allocated to subjects chosen by the student themselves.

  - General education subjects will be studied in an applied context directly related to the future profession.

### Specifics of the Directions

The content of the training will depend directly on the chosen profile. Depending on the field, the focus shifts to different disciplines:

  - **IT direction:** significant strengthening of the mathematics and digital technologies block.

  - **Medical profile:** in-depth study of biology and chemistry.

  - **Business direction:** focus on mathematics and foreign languages.

### European Experience and Safety

The implemented model is not an experiment "from scratch" — it corresponds to the advanced practice of a number of European Union countries, where vocational education is already integrated into high school. In some states, up to half of schoolchildren choose exactly such programs.

Alongside the reform of educational programs, Ukraine is continuing the implementation of a large-scale program to build 113 underground schools. These facilities are being created to ensure the safety of education in wartime conditions. A significant part of the new schools is planned to be put into operation by the beginning of the next academic year.
