## 🎯 Key Points

- A jet drone struck between the 3rd and 4th floors of an apartment building in Sumy.
- A 16-year-old teenager was injured, with their condition assessed as non-critical.
- The explosion caused a fire, damaging cars and a nearby kindergarten.
- 137 drones were launched across Ukraine overnight, 49 of them jet-powered.

On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Russian occupation forces carried out another cynical attack on peaceful Ukrainian cities using a modern jet-propelled drone. The strike hit a densely populated residential area in the city of Sumy, where the enemy drone slammed into a multi-story apartment building. The incident caused widespread resonance and severe damage to civilian infrastructure.

### Details of the Attack and Consequences in Sumy

According to Serhiy Kryvosheyenko, Head of the Sumy City Military Administration, the jet UAV impact was recorded in the residential Zarechny district of the city, striking between the third and fourth floors of a high-rise building. A powerful explosion triggered a fire, damaging the building's load-bearing structures, shattering windows, and destroying balconies. In addition, the blast wave and shrapnel damaged civilian cars parked in the courtyard, as well as the windows and doors of a nearby preschool educational institution. Local residents also experienced disruptions in gas supply.

### Casualties and Scale of the Night Raid

As a result of the strike on the residential building, two people were preliminarily reported injured, including a 16-year-old teenager. Fortunately, according to medical services, the minor's condition is assessed as non-critical. This attack was part of a massive night and morning aerial terror campaign: according to official data, last night the Russian army launched 137 attack drones across Ukraine, 49 of which were jet-propelled. Ukraine's air defense forces eliminated the majority of the targets, though certain destructive impacts could not be avoided.

### Contradictory Data

While local authorities in Sumy promptly confirmed the exact impact of a jet drone in the residential area of the Zarechny district and the presence of wounded individuals, initial reports from some other regions regarding the total number of intercepted drones and the scale of jet UAV usage varied depending on operational updates from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and local military administrations. Military experts note the growing threat posed by jet drones due to their high speed and the complexity of intercepting them, which is confirmed by recent reports from specialized media outlets.

### Context of Jet UAV Deployment

It is worth noting that Russian forces are increasingly deploying jet-powered drones, which are characterized by increased speed and pose a serious technological challenge for short-range air defense systems. Concurrently with the strikes on Sumy, on the morning of October 6, the occupiers attacked the center of Kryvyi Rih using two "Banderol" type drones, where casualties were also reported. Defense sector experts emphasize the need to further strengthen Ukraine's air defense and develop specialized means to intercept new types of airborne targets.
