# Contract worth tens of millions: Rheinmetall confirms major artillery order from Ukraine

The German defense corporation Rheinmetall has officially confirmed receiving a major government contract from Ukraine. The deal involves the supply of artillery shells worth tens of millions of euros. This information came directly from the manufacturer and has been reported in the press.

### Timelines and Production Schedule

The company has outlined a clear plan for executing this large-scale order. According to financial forecasts, the value of the contract will be reflected in the corporation's reporting in the second quarter of 2026. Actual fulfillment of the order, meaning the delivery of the products, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

Production capacity is already being utilized. Rheinmetall stated that the launch of production for this specific order has already begun at their facilities in Spain.

### International Context and the Czech Initiative

This contract fits into a broader picture of international support. Previously, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Berlin intends to allocate 300 million euros to support the Czech initiative for purchasing and subsequently supplying ammunition for Ukraine.

However, the implementation of this program is facing difficulties. Czech President Petr Pavel recently spoke about a significant reduction in the number of donor countries. While 18 countries initially joined the initiative, only nine remain at present. Pavel links this sharp change to the return of Andrej Babiš to the position of Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.

### State of the Ukrainian Defense Industry and New Procurements

Against the backdrop of external supplies, the Ukrainian defense industry continues to work on increasing the localization of production. Nevertheless, dependence on imported components persists, and some necessary parts remain in short supply.

In addition to artillery ammunition, negotiations are underway in Kyiv regarding other weapon systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported reaching a political agreement on the acquisition of additional Patriot air defense missile systems. However, the process of implementing this agreement is slowing down due to a complex of financial, legal, and technical issues.
