Washington is ready to make a new attempt in the coming weeks to resume negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with Fox News, emphasizing that the Donald Trump administration is not giving up on finding a diplomatic way out of the crisis.

### The Role of the US in Conflict Resolution

According to Rubio, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated Washington's readiness to play a constructive role in halting hostilities. The Secretary of State noted that during the first year of the administration's work, the issue received close attention, but the negotiation process has hit a dead end.

"The United States can play a role in ending this war. We will continue to explore such possibilities," Rubio emphasized. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that Donald Trump is the only world leader capable of forcing the Russian and Ukrainian sides to sit down at the negotiating table.

### New Dynamics on the Front

Rubio pointed out significant changes in the situation over the last few months. According to him, Ukraine now has the ability to launch long-range strikes deep into Russian territory, making the war increasingly tangible for the Russian population.

"We want to find out whether this new dynamic has opened the way to a certain negotiated settlement," the Secretary of State noted. He added that new diplomatic steps may be taken in the coming weeks to resume dialogue.

### Hardline Positions of the Sides

Despite the willingness to mediate, Rubio acknowledged the complexity of the task. He emphasized that both Ukraine and Russia have their own hardline principled positions.

"We understand that both sides have fairly hard red lines. Until we manage to bring these positions at least a little closer, it will not be possible to reach agreements," he said.

The Secretary of State also conveyed the President's position: "The President told his team: if you see an opportunity to become a force that gives new momentum to peace talks, do it. He always prefers diplomacy over war, and peace over hostilities".

### Kyiv's Reaction and Moscow's Conditions

Ukraine has repeatedly stated its readiness to continue negotiations with Russia, but on the condition that they are aimed at achieving a ceasefire. At the same time, Russia outlined its requirements for ending the war in a memorandum presented on June 2 during negotiations in Istanbul. In Kyiv, this document is called an ultimatum.

According to polls, an absolute majority of Ukrainians are against fulfilling Vladimir Putin's demands, which creates additional difficulties for a possible peaceful settlement.
