## 🎯 Key Points

- The nighttime ballistic missile attack on Kyiv was confirmed by the Ukrainian Air Force.
- Ahead of the strike, national leadership and intelligence warned of a high threat of shelling.
- As a result of the explosions, local fires and infrastructure issues have been recorded.

Overnight, the capital of Ukraine faced another massive missile attack launched by the Russian Federation. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Kyiv City Military Administration recorded launches of ballistic weaponry, after which powerful explosions thundered across various districts of the city. Official agencies urged residents to remain in shelters until the official all-clear is given, as the threat of repeated launches persisted for several hours.

### Background and Intelligence Data

Experts and government representatives had warned in advance about the preparation of a large-scale strike by Russian forces. On the evening of October 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed citizens, citing updated intelligence data. The head of state strongly urged Ukrainians not to ignore air raid alerts and to immediately head down to bomb shelters. Concurrently, Andriy Kovalenko, the former head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that the accumulated arsenal and enemy activity indicated preparations for a new series of shelling with a potential focus on critical infrastructure facilities.

### Escalation of Strategic Aviation

Late in the evening before the active phase of the shelling began, monitoring channels recorded increased activity of enemy aircraft. According to observers, Russian forces scrambled Tu-160 strategic bombers based in the Irkutsk region. The estimated flight time of the missiles to Ukraine's borders and airspace pointed to nighttime hours. Shortly thereafter, the threat escalated into actual combat launches, forcing the capital's emergency services to go on high alert.

### Consequences and Operational Situation

Currently, specialized services continue to clarify the extent of destruction and record the consequences of the overnight strike. Operational data is coming in regarding fires in some areas of the city, as well as local power supply issues in certain sectors. Rescue teams and State Emergency Service crews are working at the crash sites of debris and extinguishing fires. Information about casualties is being updated as official reports arrive from the city administration.

### Controversial Data

Certain discrepancies have emerged in the information space and various monitoring publics regarding the exact number of missile carriers involved and the flight time of the munitions. While the official Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine promptly informed about the threat of ballistic missile use just before the strikes, unofficial sources published contradictory information about the type of missiles used and the scale of strategic aviation involvement. Nevertheless, the general picture of the nighttime raid is confirmed by all relevant agencies.
