# Russia Attacks Ukraine with Drones from Six Directions: Air Defense Performance

![Ukrainian air defense repelling a nighttime Russian drone attack](https://xab.info/media/2026/10/01/rf-atakovala-ukrainu-dronami-shesti-napravleniy-pvo-1-oktyabrya-2026/rf-atakovala-ukrainu-dronami-shesti-napravleniy-pvo-1-oktyabrya-2026-1.webp)

## 🎯 Key Points

- Russia deployed 107 drones of various types, including 63 jet Shaheds
- Launches were carried out from six directions in Russia, Crimea, and Donbas
- Air defense forces destroyed or suppressed 87 unmanned aerial vehicles
- Hits were recorded at 11 locations and debris fell at four others

On the night of October 1, 2026, the Russian Federation launched a large-scale air attack on the territory of Ukraine, deploying over a hundred unmanned aerial vehicles of various types. According to the official report of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy carried out launches of air attack weapons from six strategic directions simultaneously, attempting to overwhelm the multi-layered air defense system.

### Scale and Geography of the Night Strike

According to the Ukrainian command, the enemy used a total of 107 strike drones. A notable feature of this wave was the active use of modern modifications: 63 jet-powered Shahed-type drones were raised into the sky, along with Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoy drones designed to exhaust the resources of anti-aircraft missile systems. Launches were recorded from Russian regions—Orel, Millerovo, Bryansk, and Shatalovo—as well as from the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk region and Gvardeyske in Crimea.

### Combat Operations of the Defense Forces and Interception Results

All available components of the Defense Forces were engaged to repel the massive air aggression: anti-aircraft missile units, fighter aviation, electronic warfare equipment, specialized unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups. As of 08:00 a.m., air defense forces reported the successful destruction or suppression of 87 enemy UAVs of various types. ### Contradictory Data

It is worth noting that differing scales of attacks have been recorded in the information space and analytical summaries over recent days. Thus, official reports for October 1 feature the figure of 107 drones from six launch directions, while similar reports from previous days in September showed raid intensities reaching 170–173 drones, with successful interception rates varying depending on the use of decoy targets.

### On-site Consequences and Current Situation

Despite the effective work of anti-aircraft gunners, avoiding consequences entirely was not possible. Direct hits by air attack weapons were recorded at 11 locations across various regions of the country, and in four cases, falling debris from downed aircraft caused local damage. At the time of publication, official agencies continue to warn citizens of the threat, as individual enemy drones are still observed in airspace.
