# Strikes up to 100 km deep: Russia prepares a massive attack on Ukraine's rear areas

The war in Ukraine is entering a new, extremely dangerous phase. According to sources, the Russian side is preparing large-scale strikes against targets deep within Ukrainian territory. The focus is on a zone up to 100 kilometers from the front line, where civilian objects traditionally located were not priority targets in previous periods of the conflict.

### New tactics: from the front to the rear

Sergey "Flash" Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine on technological issues, warned that the nature of hostilities is changing. If the emphasis was previously on positional warfare, now both sides are moving towards a tactic of massive strikes on deep rear areas (deep strike and middle strike). Experts link this to an attempt to create certain conditions ahead of possible peace negotiations.

"Flash" emphasizes that Russia will not be selective about targets. Vital objects for the functioning of society and the economy are at risk:

- Gas stations;

- Post offices;

- Warehouses and logistics centers;

- Enterprises and factories;

- Bases for construction and agricultural machinery;

- Railway and road infrastructure facilities;

- Electrical substations of various capacities.

### Critical vulnerability of air defense

The main problem exacerbating the situation is the acute shortage of missiles for air defense (Air Force) systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. Due to the lack of ammunition, Patriot systems, which are the "gold standard" of protection, have been switched from automatic mode to manual operation. This reduces reaction speed and interception efficiency.

Statistics from recent months demonstrate an alarming trend. Although Ukrainian forces have destroyed the vast majority of attack drones (about 89% of all aerial targets during massive attacks), the interception efficiency of ballistic missiles has dropped to 40%. In the last month alone, Russia launched nearly 6,000 drones and missiles at Ukraine, of which about 5,300 were shot down.

### Aid from the US and production plans

In the face of depleted reserves, critically important aid from abroad is needed. In the coming days, the US plans to transfer a new package of anti-ballistic missiles for Patriot systems. Furthermore, US President Donald Trump has announced providing Ukraine with a license to produce Patriot systems on its own territory.

However, experts note that implementing this plan is a long process. Building a production site, setting up the assembly line, and releasing the first batch of missiles will take at least a year. Until then, the Ukrainian side will be forced to rely on limited stocks and manual control of systems.

### Goal of attacks and positions of the parties

Sergey Beskrestnov notes that the situation is becoming nonsensical in terms of logic, but predictable in terms of the enemy's actions. Both sides are systematically destroying each other's infrastructure, leading to casualties among the civilian population. "We want to stop all this, but our enemy does not. He is quite satisfied with all this," the advisor stated.

At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine has enough resources and will to launch retaliatory strikes against Russia's critical infrastructure, which also affects the course of the war. Nevertheless, readiness for attacks up to 100 km deep remains an urgent necessity for all security services and the population.
