# Salaries up to $8000 in Ukraine's defense sector: how the military-industrial complex is fighting the labor shortage

Ukraine's defense industry (military-industrial complex) is showing unprecedented activity in the labor market. Companies are offering conditions that differ radically from the national average: this is not just about decent pay, but real premiums for specialization. In the face of an acute shortage of personnel, the defense sector is forced to overpay to attract the right people.

### The math of success: why the defense sector pays more

Statistics leave no room for illusions. The average salary for vacancies in the defense sector on the Work.ua portal is 40,000 hryvnias. For comparison: the overall average on the labor market is around 28,000. The 43% gap in favor of the defense industry is explained not only by patriotism but also by fierce competition for professionals.

Employers are looking not for novices, but for experienced specialists ready to solve complex tasks. A design engineer in a regular company might expect 40,000 hryvnias, whereas in the defense sector, the same position is offered at 60,000. This is 50% higher than the market standard.

### Real figures and hidden reserves

Although many managers claim they pay "market rates," the reality looks different. Engineer salaries, depending on specialization, range from $2,500 to $4,000. Meanwhile, individual highly qualified specialists receive up to $8,000 per month. Such sums make working in the defense sector one of the most attractive in the country.

### Labor shortage as a challenge to the economy

The problem of labor shortages is not a local pain for the defense industry, but a systemic challenge for the entire economy. Economy Minister Alexey Sobolev admitted that the country lacks millions of workers for stable development. The shortage of qualified personnel is slowing growth, and the defense sector is forced to take radical measures to maintain production capacity.

At the same time, despite rising wages in blue-collar professions, the total number of job vacancies in the labor market is shrinking. This creates a paradoxical situation: there is money, but there are not enough people capable of earning it. The defense sector is becoming the locomotive trying to pull the entire economy along by offering the best conditions.
