The night of August 2, 2026, became one of the heaviest for the Saratov region in recent times. The region was subjected to a large-scale combined attack by unmanned aerial vehicles, as a result of which fire engulfed key industrial and military facilities in the Volga region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirmed the operation, noting that all declared targets were hit.

The center of events was the Saratov Oil Refinery, owned by Rosneft. Powerful explosions led to fires on the territory of the enterprise. According to OSINT analysts and footage from eyewitnesses, the strike hit the critically important primary oil processing unit ELOU-AVT-6. For one of the oldest plants in the country, this is already the 15th strike since the beginning of the conflict.

Synchronously with the industrial facility, the Engels-2 air base, located on the opposite bank of the Volga, was hit. It is here that the strategic bombers Tu-95MS and Tu-160, which regularly strike Ukrainian territory, are stationed. Local residents recorded a series of powerful detonations and a bright glow over the airfield on video.

Attempts by the air defense to intercept drones led to tragic consequences for the civilian population. Governor Roman Busargin officially confirmed damage in residential areas. In Engels, debris from a downed drone fell on a nine-story residential building, causing a fire and the destruction of several floors. As a result of the incident, two people died. In Saratov itself, the shockwave shattered windows in numerous apartment buildings.

The attack on the Saratov region was not an isolated event. It was part of a coordinated operation covering several regions of Russia at once. Simultaneously with the Volga region, a Wildberries logistics hub in the Samara region was engulfed in flames, an oil depot in the Kaluga region was destroyed, and a drone launch site in the Bryansk region was hit. At the moment, emergency services are working at the sites, and investigative bodies are assessing the scale of the damage.
