Donetsk Shakhtar successfully played an away match against Rivne-based Veres in the opening fixture of the 8th round of the Ukrainian Premier League. The encounter, held in Rivne, ended in a confident 3:0 victory for the Pitmen, although the nature of the game proved to be extremely challenging for the favorites as they prepare for responsible Champions League fixtures.

### Match Flow and Turning Point

In the opening minutes of the match, Shakhtar's status as favorites seemed nominal, as the hosts created dangerous chances and pressed actively. However, the Rivne side failed to capitalize on their opportunities, while Donetsk punished their opponents for their very first mistake. In the 33rd minute, Pedrinho successfully scored on the rebound after a powerful shot by Neverton, opening the scoring. The hosts' situation worsened four minutes later when Rostyslav Baran received a direct red card for a rough and dangerous challenge against Valeriy Bondar, leaving Veres down to ten men.

### Defenders' Goals and Second-Half Triumph

Left shorthanded, the hosts could no longer turn the tide against the unstoppable giants. In the second half, Shakhtar sealed the rout thanks to the individual skill of their defenders. Spectators witnessed true wonder goals scored by Mykola Matviyenko and Pedro Henrique, whose powerful and precise strikes removed any doubts about the winner and solidified Donetsk's advantage.

### Tournament Implications and Table Battle

Thanks to this away victory, the Donetsk club managed to temporarily top the Ukrainian Premier League standings, overtaking competitors for at least a day. However, rivals could soon reclaim their positions depending on their results in the round. As for Veres, the club maintained its sixth place, but the tight competition in the standings forces the team to look over its shoulder at closely trailing pursuers.
